Anni-Mei's Autobiography..
On December 19th, 1986 in Kanagawa Ken - Japan.. a baby girl named Ann was born!! hehe.. In case you guys wondered, it's right by the capital city, Tokyo! Yes, I'm JDM. lol I was there for 4 years, until I moved to Canada. The only memories I have of Japan are the ones captured in photographs or my father's handy camcorder.. The one video I can never forget was the time we went to Tokyo Disneyland, I was hopping over benches didn't listen to my parents yelling at me to be careful.. And well, I learned my lesson. I tripped and fell to the ground. Balled my eyes out.. Caught on camera.. it's painful to watch =( I'm glad I don't remember how it felt! lol
I grew up in Toronto, in a very artistic family.. My Father is an Oil Canvas Artist, and my Mother sang in the church choirs when she was younger. My older Sister is also very musical, she sang, she played the piano, competed in beauty pageants, and is now in the Graphic Design industry.. Extremely creative. She's the one woman I idolize the most. Extremely Talented, Determined, and Successful.. Which had also lead me into the exact same path!!
As a young girl in elementary school, I would take every single art subject you can possibly think of! Extracurricular was my middle name!.. ok maybe not lol I was in the Visual Arts Club, Dance Club, Took Vocal classes, and even learned how to play the Violin. I would ALWAYS enter school talent shows, and loved performing at every single event. (Don't get me wrong, I was also a tomboy!.. very much into sports. Would have bruises all over my legs from soccer!) In middle school my two bestfriends and I got to take first place in a contest, which earned us the title of "THEEEE DANCERS" of the school! not just Dancers.. THE Dancers. haha.. We were the asian sensations! That can sing, dance, draw, and played musical instruments! hehe..
In highschool I enrolled into the Visual Arts program - tough school.. you had to Audition and go through an Interview process to get into... This was when I really took the arts seriously. Recieved my OSSD & Regioanl Arts Program Certificate and Went onto George Brown college and took Advertising Graphic Design!.. i've always wanted to model. But knowing my height, and Model's requirements in the industry.. I was never really considering that as something I can seriously get into.. maybe acting?.. I formed a group called Dysfunktional and we performed for various local events.. hiphop mainly.. that didn't last too long though.
After that, In 2003-2004 I started doing local Fashion Shows (In my 8inch heels - I'm serious too! haha).. and well, I realized how much fun it was!! and wanted to take a step further.. stick my toes in and test the water ;).. I began working with various photographers, starting with my sister.. (oh yea, she's also a photographer lol) I was her jewelry catalogue model for her company.. from the photos taken, I used it towards building my own portfolio. Eventually, photographers took notice of me and I started to work with them to build their portfolio, which further built mine!! and well.. that lead me to landing print work and many other projects and opportunities after that!
Someone within the community approached me one day and told me to audition for a pageant.. I was hesitant at first, but then I said... HEY! you know what, I'm just gonna do it! And see how far I go!! So I entered the Miss Viet Canada 2005 beauty pageant for the hell of it! Went through weeks of practice and preparation... Being the shortest one out of 60+ applicants - I made it to the SEMI-FINALS, TOP TEN! How amazing is that?.. That was my goal, and I was so happy!! SHORT PEOPLE REPRESENTTTT!!! =O
